Residents in Buliisa District have been urged to diversify their sources of income and reduce over reliance on fishing.
The call was made by the district’s Senior Commercial Officer, Mr. Dison Kasisaki, during an interview at his office this morning.
Kasisaki noted that unlike in the past when Lake Albert produced enough fish to sustain many households, declining fish stocks partly due to poor fishing practices and over population have made it difficult for residents to earn a stable livelihood.

Kasisaki encouraged the community to embrace other economic activities such as animal husbandry, poultry keeping, crop farming, trade, and various skills-based projects.
He said that diversifying income sources will help households improve their earnings and lift themselves out of poverty.
He further appealed to residents to change their mindset and adopt new ways of making a living to secure a better economic future.
He emphasised that residents should stop hiring out and selling land but instead use it into production.
