Buliisa | Biiso FM News Desk — As the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA)’s mass enrollment and renewal exercise draws to a close at the parish level, hundreds of residents continue to flock to the registration point at Biiso Community Hall in Biiso Town Council, Buliisa District.
According to Arthur Kiiza, a Registration Assistant at Biiso Town Council, the number of residents turning up for registration has significantly increased as the deadline approaches later this month.
“The turnout has gone up compared to previous weeks. Many people are rushing to complete the process before the deadline,” Kiiza told Biiso FM in an interview on Monday morning.
However, Kiiza expressed concern over limited equipment at the centre, noting that the registration team is operating with only four computers, each handling approximately 30 applicants per day.
“We are doing our best, but the machines are few compared to the large population. Each computer can only handle about 30 people daily, which limits our capacity,” he said.
He also urged residents who have already renewed their National Identification Cards (IDs) and received confirmation messages from NIRA to collect them from the registration centre.
“Some people completed their renewals and even received messages indicating that their IDs are ready, but they have not yet come to pick them. We encourage them to do so as soon as possible,” Kiiza emphasized.
The registration assistant further revealed that many pupils and students, particularly candidates, missed the exercise due to school engagements and tight examination schedules.
“A number of students, especially those in candidate classes, did not turn up for registration because they were busy with school activities. We advise parents to help them register during the next phase,” Kiiza added.
The mass enrolment and renewal exercise is part of NIRA’s ongoing national campaign aimed at ensuring all Ugandans obtain valid identification cards ahead of upcoming national programs and elections.
Officials have encouraged residents across the district to make use of the remaining days to register or renew their IDs to avoid missing out on essential government services.
