Kampala, Uganda – August 13, 2025 — The National Resistance Movement (NRM) 1st National Vice Chairman, Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo, has called for discipline and respect among party leaders vying for positions on the Central Executive Committee (CEC) and other special organs.
Speaking at a harmonization meeting held August 12 at the NRM Electoral Commission offices on Kyadondo Road, Kigongo warned aspirants against using influence to intimidate or sabotage rivals.
“If we had no discipline in the Movement, many of you wouldn’t be here,” Kigongo said. “Behavior is very important, especially for leaders. The public is watching.”
The meeting, attended by all CEC aspirants, was organized to outline nomination guidelines and promote unity ahead of the NRM National Delegates Conference, set to take place from August 20 to 28 at Kololo Independence Grounds. The event is expected to draw over 25,000 delegates from across the country.
NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong and Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi also attended the meeting.
Todwong addressed claims of favoritism, firmly stating that all candidates will be treated equally.
“Nobody is being favored. Everyone will campaign, and voting will be through lining up. Results will be declared openly,” he said.
Candidates were encouraged to conduct peaceful campaigns, with assurances that agents will be present at polling stations to ensure transparency and fairness.
The leadership emphasized that maintaining internal cohesion and public trust is key as the party prepares for this major electoral event.
