The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has announced a rerun of the primary elections for the Kapchorwa Municipality Woman Member of Parliament seat. The fresh vote is scheduled to take place on Thursday, July 31, 2025.
The decision comes after the nullification of the previous polls due to widespread irregularities, including voter bribery, forgery, and other electoral malpractices.
A letter from NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi, seen by Uganda Radio Network, directs the Kapchorwa District Registrar to organize new elections. The earlier process was marred by controversy, leading to the arrest of the former registrar over alleged misconduct during the vote.
Isaac Chepkurui has since been appointed as the acting registrar and will oversee the rerun, along with other ongoing party primaries in the district. He will work in coordination with a team appointed by the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) to ensure a transparent and credible election.
The NRM is calling on supporters in Kapchorwa to turn out in large numbers and participate peacefully in the polls.
