In a heartfelt display of family unity and tradition, the grandchildren of an 86-year-old Mirios Nyakamadi Nyaziira gathered at their family home in Kabaseeka Village, Kihungya Sub County, Buliisa District to celebrate an annual thanksgiving ceremony on Easter Sunday.
The ceremony, a fixture in the family’s calendar, serves not only as a reunion for Mrs. Nyakamadi’s descendants but also as a beacon of peace and familiarity.
It’s a time for the family to reaffirm their bonds, share stories, and express gratitude for the matriarch who has been a constant source of love and support.
Justine Asiimwe, the eldest grandchild, spoke of the importance of the event, emphasizing the need to cherish and care for the elderly, especially those battling illnesses like hypertension.
“Our grandmother has always been there for us, fostering unity and showering us with love. It’s our turn to show her the same affection and ensure she’s never lonely,” Asiimwe said.
In a move that reflects the family’s forward-thinking and communal spirit, Asiimwe revealed the establishment of a family savings and credit cooperative organization (SACCO). This initiative aims to provide financial security for family members in times of need and to extend a helping hand to the less fortunate in the community.
Abitegeka Darian, another grandchild, praised the event for strengthening familial ties. “It’s been a while since we’ve all been together. This gathering helps us reconnect and build new connections,” Darian noted.
The family also took the opportunity to address the broader issue of elder care, advocating for regular visits and support for the older generation, who often face health challenges exacerbated by solitude.
