Police in Kisoro District are investigating how several suspects in an arson and malicious damage case allegedly escaped from custody with the help of Hon. John Kamara Nzeyimana, the MP for Bufumbira County North.
According to Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson Elly Maate, the suspects — Gasigwa Jeremiah, Harerimana Augustine, Nkurunziza Apollo, Bavuzayubusa Paskazia, Mujawimana Dinavance, and Basekuye Teleza — were under investigation for allegedly burning and destroying property belonging to Ms. Mahoro Jackline following a village dispute on May 3, 2025.
Ms. Mahoro reported the incident to Kisoro Central Police Station, prompting police to open a case and summon the suspects for interviews and statements. However, instead of responding to the summons, the suspects allegedly sought advice from Hon. Kamara, who is said to have told them not to cooperate with police.
The suspects then reportedly went into hiding, and Hon. Kamara is now being sought by authorities for allegedly aiding their escape.
