The Masindi District Resident District Commissioner, Emmy Ngabirano, yesterday launched a one-week patriotism training course for students at the Uganda Technical Institute (UTC) Kyema in Masindi.
Over 700 students pursuing both certificates and diplomas in different courses will undergo the training, which will end on October 1st this year.
Speaking at the launch, Ngabirano asked the students to concentrate on the training, be disciplined and be ready to take up the mantle of leadership, noting that he is optimistic the training will create a difference in their lives both inside and outside Kyema.
The Masindi district speaker, Moses Kirya, said that after the training, the students will qualify to be patriotic citizens of this country.
He also asked students to be serious in their academics and aim to be job creators not seekers.
The institution’s principal, Andrew Muzazi, says the training is intended to change the way students think about this country, adding that the program has a curriculum that is customized to the country and most of the things to do in the program are about changing the mindset and loving the country.
The program, which is the presidential initiative, was rolled out in 2015 in all Uganda technical institutions and runs once every academic year.
