Three declared unopposed as EC conducts SIG elections in Masindi district

Those declared unopposed were Swabura Katusiime as District Female Youth Councillor, Nyamayaru Yusuf as District Councillor for the Elderly, and William Mwambu as District Male Councillor representing Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

Three candidates were on Wednesday declared unopposed as the Electoral Commission (EC) conducted elections for Special Interest Groups (SIGs) at the district level in Masindi.

The elections took place on January 21, 2026, at the EC Gardens.

Those declared unopposed were Swabura Katusiime as District Female Youth Councillor, Nyamayaru Yusuf as District Councillor for the Elderly, and William Mwambu as District Male Councillor representing Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

In the contested races, Frank Abaho (Independent) emerged winner for the position of District Male Youth Councillor after securing 191 votes against Anthony Nsimiire, who garnered 142 votes.

Everce Nantume of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) won the position of District Female Councillor for PWDs after obtaining 54 votes, defeating Independent candidate Margaret Nyamaizi, who received 28 votes.

Meanwhile, Isingoma Birungi Margaret (Independent) won the position of Female District Councillor for the Elderly after securing 42 votes, narrowly defeating NRM’s Zebby Baitwaki, who polled 38 votes.

Speaking to our reporter after the elections, Everce Nantume thanked the electorate for entrusting her with the mandate and pledged to work diligently while lobbying government for improved service delivery to persons with disabilities.
