Mpigi District
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has met senior officials of the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom to discuss strategic development priorities affecting the Kingdom and the wider Bunyoro region.
The meeting took place recently at Kisoro State Lodge in Mpigi District and brought together members of the Royal Family, Royal Commissioners, the Prime Minister of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, Owek. Andrew Byakutaga Ateenyi, the Okwiri, the head of Royal Regalia, the Assistant Batebe, Babiito, the NRM Central Executive Committee Deputy Chairperson for the Western Region, as well as staff of the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom administration.
During the engagement, the Kingdom leadership formally presented key priority areas to the President through the Prime Minister and the Chairperson of the Royal Commission. The presentations highlighted challenges and development opportunities aimed at improving governance, service delivery and economic transformation within the Kingdom.
President Museveni commended the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom leadership for its constructive role in promoting unity and socio-economic development in the region. He provided guidance on several issues raised and pledged immediate support to a number of Kingdom programs.
In his remarks, Prime Minister Owek. Andrew Byakutaga Ateenyi thanked the President for the continued government support and the implementation of various programs and projects in Bunyoro-Kitara. He particularly applauded President Museveni’s sustained interventions aimed at improving livelihoods and accelerating development in the Kingdom and across Uganda.
The issues presented to the President covered a broad range of sectors, including governance, fisheries management, immigration, tourism and cultural promotion, health services, hotel and hospitality development, education, regional infrastructure, mechanized agriculture, reparations, land matters, flagship Kingdom programs such as Eka Ekwesimisa and campaigns on coffee, cocoa and soybean production.
Other key matters discussed included the return of Kingdom properties held by government, oil and gas development, the refinery and Kabalega Industrial Park, the establishment of Bunyoro University, appointments, and other strategic initiatives critical to the Kingdom’s growth.
Both the Government and the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom agreed on a clear way forward and reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration for the development and prosperity of the Kingdom and Uganda at large.
