As Uganda heads toward the 2026 general elections, the political picture is becoming increasingly clear: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is on course for a decisive victory. The projection by our Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) leader, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, that President Museveni will win with about 80% of the vote, is not mere speculation — it is an informed reflection of the current political landscape.
Opposition Weaknesses Exposed
The National Unity Platform (NUP), once hailed as the face of the opposition, has failed to sustain its momentum and credibility. Recent developments — including disorganized internal vetting and sidelining of experienced legislators — have left the party fractured and uninspiring.
NUP’s inability to front capable and trusted parliamentary candidates has disillusioned many of its supporters. Instead of building institutions and presenting policy-based alternatives, the party has been consumed by internal conflicts, favoritism, and populist theatrics.
In contrast, the National Resistance Movement (NRM), supported by the PLU, has maintained internal cohesion, discipline, and focus on service delivery. This organizational strength will play a decisive role in ensuring President Museveni’s overwhelming victory.
Museveni’s Proven Leadership
President Museveni’s unmatched experience and steady hand remain central to Uganda’s stability and progress. For nearly four decades, he has steered the country from instability to a path of peace, economic growth, and regional influence.
His administration continues to deliver visible results: the ongoing Tilenga and Kingfisher oil projects, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), industrial parks, and the Parish Development Model — all reflect a government that works. These are not abstract plans but real investments transforming communities and livelihoods.
The majority of Ugandans still associate President Museveni with security, development, and continuity — values that remain the backbone of national progress.
The PLU Factor: Renewed Patriotism and Youth Mobilization
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s leadership of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has revitalized the country’s political scene. His message of patriotism, unity, and modernization has attracted Uganda’s youthful population, many of whom are tired of divisive and unproductive politics.
Through the PLU, a new generation of politically conscious Ugandans is emerging — one that values discipline, national pride, and continuity of stable leadership. The growing synergy between PLU and NRM structures is reinforcing President Museveni’s support base, especially at the grassroots level.
In regions like Buliisa, where the oil sector is driving rapid transformation, people are seeing firsthand what sustained NRM leadership means in practice. Roads, bridges, and social services are improving, and opportunities for youth and local enterprises are expanding.
An Opposition Without a Vision
The opposition today lacks a coherent message or a viable national plan. Beyond social media outrage and personality politics, there is little to convince Ugandans that the alternative is better.
Meanwhile, NRM and PLU leaders are on the ground, engaging directly with citizens and addressing community needs. The opposition’s detachment from grassroots realities will further diminish their influence in 2026.
A Vote for Stability and Progress
Ugandans have a simple but powerful choice to make in 2026 — between proven leadership and political experimentation. President Museveni represents continuity, peace, and prosperity. His vision, supported by Gen. Muhoozi’s renewed mobilization efforts, offers both stability for today and confidence for the future.
As Gen. Muhoozi has rightly noted, an 80% victory for President Museveni is not only achievable but likely. The numbers, trends, and public sentiment all point in that direction.
Ugandans understand what is at stake. They will vote to protect peace, deepen development, and ensure the country’s steady march toward middle-income status.
The 2026 elections will reaffirm a simple truth — Uganda’s transformation story continues under the firm and visionary leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
