Kikuube

CNOOC Uganda Limited has donated essential medical equipment, furniture, and educational materials to health centres and schools in Kikuube and Hoima districts, reaffirming its commitment to improving healthcare and education services in the Albertine Region.

The handover included 120 sets of medical equipment and furniture supplied to Buhuka Health Centre III and Kyangwali Health Centre IV. Out of a total of 120 sets of medical equipment and furniture, 52 sets going to Buhuka Health centre and 68 to Kyangwali Health Centre IV. The package comprised hospital beds, hydraulic theatre operating beds, examination lights, diagnostic equipment, BP machines, maternity and theatre instrument sets, autoclaves, resuscitators, bedside lockers, cupboards, and patient screens, among other essential tools.

In the education sector, 11 primary schools received 400 desks and 880 textbooks targeting learners from Primary One to Primary Seven. Each school benefited from an average of 40 desks and 80 textbooks.

The beneficiary schools include Kabaale Public School, Kigaaga Primary School, Kaseeta Primary School, St. Andrews Nyairongo Primary School, Kibaale Modern/Kyarushesha Primary School, St. Mary’s Wairagaza Primary School, St. Augustine/Nsozi Primary School, Tontema Primary School, Butoole Primary School, St. Karoli Lwanga/Rwemisanga Primary School, and Buhuuka Primary School.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Liu Xiangdong, President of CNOOC Uganda Limited, said the company remains dedicated to uplifting host communities.

“Healthy and educated communities form the foundation for sustainable development and shared prosperity,” he noted.

Beyond this handover, CNOOC continues to implement a range of corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, including scholarships for Ugandan students in China, annual medical camps benefiting more than 700 people, tree-planting campaigns, human rights sensitization programs, and vocational skills training such as heavy equipment operation. The company is also supporting innovative livelihood projects in rice and millet growing, piggery, and reforestation, aimed at improving food security, household incomes, and climate resilience.

The ceremony was presided over by Kikuube District LCV Chairperson, Peter Banura, who applauded CNOOC for supporting community livelihoods through investments in health, education, and skills development. The event was also attended by Mr. Ernest N. Rubondo, Executive Director of the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU), along with government officials, headteachers, and community leaders.

Beneficiaries welcomed the support with gratitude. John Kyamanya, Deputy Head Teacher of Kabaale Primary School, said the provision of new curriculum textbooks will improve teaching and learning outcomes.

A nurse at Buhuka Health Centre III also observed that the increased bed capacity in the maternity wing is encouraging men to stay overnight in support of their wives during delivery.

The initiative reflects CNOOC Uganda Limited’s corporate vision of “Energy for a Better Future” and its guiding principles of High Quality, Value Creation, and Talent Development.
