Police have arrested Clinton Mwesiime, a clinical officer at Hamurwa Health Centre IV in Rubanda district, in connection with the murder of Leonada Kobusingye, 45.

Mwesiime was picked up on Saturday, 9th August 2025, after requesting prayers during a church service in Nakawa, Kampala, where he allegedly confessed to the killing. He was first detained at Jinja Road Police Station before being transferred to Kabale on Wednesday.

Kobusingye’s body was discovered on 30th July in a room at Cheers Pub and Accommodation in Kabale Municipality. She had checked in the previous day under the name Allen Orishaba, accompanied by a man who identified himself only as Julius.

The lodge attendant found her with four stab wounds to the chest and stomach. A knife and an unused HIV/syphilis test kit were recovered at the scene.

Kigezi Region police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed Mwesiime will be charged with murder once investigations are complete.

A detective familiar with the case said the suspect admitted he had previously worked for Kobusingye as a laundry helper and later entered a relationship with her. He allegedly told police he killed her after she became pregnant, refused to have an abortion, and demanded marriage. Mwesiime reportedly claimed he feared public ridicule for marrying an older woman and became enraged after learning she was HIV positive.
