Hoima Regional Referral Hospital has officially launched its new dialysis unit, a major boost in the fight against kidney failure in the region.
Speaking during the launch on Tuesday, Dr. Louis Nyende explained that dialysis is a life-saving treatment for patients whose kidneys can no longer function properly. The procedure uses a machine to filter waste products from the blood, mimicking the role of healthy kidneys.

Dr. Nyende also urged the public to prioritize regular medical checkups, warning that early detection is key to preventing acute kidney injuries.
Immaculate Kabategeki, a nurse working in the unit, noted that the facility will offer dialysis sessions three times a week, especially targeting patients with chronic kidney conditions.
The new dialysis unit is expected to reduce the burden on patients who previously had to travel long distances for treatment.
