Authorities in Hoima District have halted the eviction of residents from contested land in Runga and Ryenyana villages located in Kiganja and Kapapi sub-counties respectively.
The decision was made during a district security meeting chaired by Resident District Commissioner Rogers Mbabazi, held yesterday at the DISO’s office in Buhamba Trading Centre Kitoba Sub County Hoima District.
The committee directed all claimants to present valid land ownership documents before any further action can be taken .Nzeire was tasked by the residents to produce a land title for the contested land before the security committee but he failed to show any copy which prompted the committee to start doubting whether the land belongs to him as per his claim.
The decision and directive followed an eviction threat issued by Nzeire Shedrack Kaguta brother to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who had ordered residents to vacate the disputed land by March 20th 2026.

Residents like Nyarabira Ochaya, Alfred Kaleb and others expressed fear that he could use his influence as a member of the first family to force them off the land. They were so amazed to see the brother to the President being the one involved in evicting residents rather than protecting them.

In October 2025, Minister Mayanja ordered that over 1,000 families who had been evicted from contested land in Kapapi be resettled back onto their bibanja.
He also directed security commanders in the area to withdraw armed personnel and allow the affected communities to return.
They were evicted from their homes in several villages, including Waaki North, Kapapi Central, Waaki South, Runga, Kiryatete, and Kiganja, all located in Kapapi and Kiganja sub-counties, Hoima District.
Residents insist the land has been their home for decades, passed down through generations, and accuse powerful individuals of using land titles and security enforcement to displace them.
