Kampala, Uganda – President Yoweri Museveni has fulfilled his promise to reward the Uganda Cranes CHAN 2024 players with Shs1.2 billion per win, a commitment made ahead of the tournament.
This was confirmed today, Wednesday, 10th September 2025, by State Minister for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, during a Parliament plenary session. Speaking to Members of Parliament, Minister Ogwang stated that the Shs2.4 billion allocated for the Cranes is no longer just a pledge.
“The funds have now been disbursed directly into the individual accounts of the players and the entire team that participated in CHAN 2024,” Ogwang said, drawing applause from MPs.
President Museveni had pledged the Shs1.2 billion per win prior to the 2024 CHAN tournament, which was co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. The Cranes fell to Algeria but bounced back with victories over Guinea and Niger, and a thrilling 3–3 draw with South Africa, securing a place in the quarterfinals. Although they were edged out by Senegal in the quarterfinal match, Minister Ogwang praised the team for making the nation proud.
In recognition of their recent wins against Somalia and Mozambique, the First Family will host the Uganda Cranes at State House Entebbe this evening, Wednesday, 10th September 2025.
