Vianny Kanani, an 80-year-old resident of Kikuube in Kikuube District, has drawn public attention after constructing a modern, self-designed grave estimated at over Shs10 million.
The structure includes tiled interior walls, solar-powered lighting, and a small house built above the grave, giving it a unique and contemporary appearance.
Kanani says the project began two years ago, inspired by what he described as “shameful burials” within his community. He explains that he wants a decent and comfortable final resting place, adding that peace of mind matters more to him than following traditional expectations.
In preparation for his funeral, Kanani has also opened a Post Bank account, where he has already saved Shs2 million to help cover future burial expenses.
The initiative has stirred mixed reactions in the community—some view it as a sign of vanity, while others praise it as an act of foresight and planning.
Kanani, a father of 18 children and grandfather to more than 200 grandchildren, says he stands by his decision and values the assurance it brings.
