Kira Municipality Member of Parliament Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has called on Ugandans to elect competent and knowledgeable leaders, saying Parliament is meant for serious legislative work, not entertainment.
Speaking during a visit to his constituency in Kasokoso, Ssemujju said voters should focus on choosing the “best people possible” to represent them in the August House.
“Don’t bother your MPs with burials. Leave that to the councillors. MPs have more serious work to do in the House,” he said.
The outspoken legislator also took a swipe at some of his colleagues, accusing them of turning Parliament into a stage for comedy.
“There are people in Parliament who are very good at comedy. They are unserious, and I’ve said it because I want them to get angry,” Ssemujju remarked.
He thanked his constituents for recognizing his contributions, saying he remains committed to his duties despite criticism from some quarters.
“I am happy my people appreciate the serious work I am doing in Parliament,” he added.
Ssemujju noted that many Ugandans have expressed a desire for more leaders like him in the House.
“People tell me they wish there were 20 Ssemujjus in Parliament. I don’t mind criticism because, at the end of the day, work must be done,” he said.
The legislator emphasized that knowledge and seriousness should guide voters in choosing their representatives ahead of future elections.
