Health authorities in Buliisa District have confirmed that more than 2,000 children under the age of two have been vaccinated against malaria as part of the ongoing national malaria vaccination campaign.
The update was given by Robert Mugabe, the Buliisa District Health Educator, during an interview this evening. Mugabe revealed that since the campaign began in May this year, the district has recorded a total of 2,837 children between six months and two years eligible for the malaria vaccine.

This follows the official launch of the national malaria vaccination drive in April in Apac District, the area with the highest malaria burden in Uganda.
Mugabe urged all parents and guardians in Buliisa to take part in the vaccination campaign to protect their children from the deadly disease.

In addition, he advised the public to continue practicing other malaria prevention measures such as sleeping under insecticide-treated mosquito nets, clearing bushes around homes, draining stagnant water, and closing doors and windows early in the evening.

Health officials say the combination of vaccination and preventive measures is key to reducing the malaria burden in Buliisa and across the country.
