Farmers in the Albertine region have been advised to shift their focus to perennial crops as a way of boosting harvests and improving financial stability.

The call was made by Maj. (Rtd) Alex Baguma, Liaison Officer for Operation Wealth Creation at the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries. He was speaking during the launch of the Albertine Agribusiness Development Program, organized by Stanbic Business Incubator Limited.

Baguma noted that many farmers in the region continue to face exploitation by middlemen, who buy produce at very low prices and go on to make huge profits.

He emphasized that training in agribusiness is key to empowering farmers with the skills to access better markets and negotiate fairer prices.

The new program is expected to create a sustainable agricultural value chain in the Albertine region, with a focus on long-term profitability for local farmers.
