Two Chinese nationals working on the East African Crude Oil Pipeline in Hoima District have been remanded to Hoima Government Prison over theft of construction materials.
Albertine South Police spokesperson, SP Julius Allan Hakiza, identified the suspects as Qiao Tian Peng and Zhanga Dong Geng. The two allegedly conspired to steal three drums of aluminum cable wires valued at Shs114 million.
According to police, the cables meant for pipeline construction were stolen on August 11, 2025, at around 9pm in Kayera Village, Kigaaga Parish, Kabaale Sub-county. A case was filed at Kabaale Police Station the following day and later registered as CRB 468/2025 at Hoima District.
The suspects appeared in court on Friday, August 15, 2025, and were remanded until August 28, when their bail applications will be heard.
Hakiza further revealed that seven other workers linked to the case were released on police bond as investigations continue.
