Hoima, Uganda – August 6, 2025 – Grieving relatives flocked to Hoima City Mortuary this morning to identify the bodies of loved ones who perished in a tragic road accident in Kigorobya Town Council, Hoima District.
The accident occurred around 11:00 PM last night along the Hoima–Buliisa road near Hillside Secondary School. A Fuso truck, registration number UBB 639W, believed to have been overloaded with market vendors, overturned while reportedly rolling backwards.
According to eyewitness accounts from survivors, at least 18 people died on the spot, with others succumbing to injuries later at nearby hospitals. Over 13 people were seriously injured and are currently receiving medical treatment.
The victims, mostly traders, were returning from the Buliisa Auction Market and heading to Hoima when the fatal crash occurred.
Speaking to the media, Police spokesperson Rusoke Kananura confirmed the accident and warned that the death toll could rise, citing the severity of injuries sustained by survivors.
Authorities are continuing investigations into the cause of the crash, with preliminary findings pointing to overloading and possible mechanical failure.
This tragic incident has cast a dark shadow over the region, with families and community members mourning the sudden loss of lives.
