A group of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Buliisa District have petitioned the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) and the District National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairperson, citing irregularities in the Special Interest Group (SIG) elections held today at the District Resource Center.

According to Harriet Kugonza and Evelyn Kobusinge SIG leaders from Biiso Town Council and Kihungya Sub-county respectively the district NRM registrar, Mr. Moses Ntakimanye, presented two separate voter registers during the exercise, a move they claim was illegal and confusing.

Other voters, including Frank Mugisa from Butiaba Sub-county and Mugisa Aruna from Kihungya, voiced their dissatisfaction, noting that the first register was handwritten while the second appeared to have been brought from the NRM office. The inconsistencies reportedly led to chaos and frustration among participants.

The aggrieved voters rejected the exercise and are now demanding that the election be conducted afresh under proper procedures.

Meanwhile, Faith Byakagaba and several others proceeded to vote but expressed concern over the use of two registers. They also accused the registrar of making phone calls to seek authority during the voting process, which they say undermined the credibility of the election.

When contacted for comment, NRM registrar Mr. Moses Ntakimanye dismissed the allegations, stating that the elections were conducted as planned.

The petitioners are now awaiting a formal response from the RDC and district NRM leadership regarding their concerns.
