Last week, the UNEB Executive Director, Dan Odongo asked school heads and directors to be humane by allowing candidates who haven’t yet paid fees to sit for exams.
“We request heads of centers to avoid the act of pulling candidates out of examination rooms in the course of the examination due to fees issues. The board will work with the schools to put in place measures to assist them in recovering their fees even after the examination has been done by a defaulting candidate,” Odongo said.
This was to enable all the registered candidates to participate in these final examinations (UCE) since next year was the start of new curriculum and therefore the candidates that would miss this year (2023) would be in a beleaguered situation and would therefore opt for tertiary institutions like the presidential initiatives for Primary Seven graduates.
Buliisa District over Eight candidates didn’t turn up for the exams that started earlier this Monday and the reasons for their failure to participate in these exams haven’t been disclosed.
Buliisa district with over Eight UNEB centers namely Devine SS, Ngwedo seed SS, Uganda Matyrs Comprehensive, Bugungu SS, Mukitale, St.Francis SS, Biiso war memorial SS and Butiaba Seed School registered 520 candidates for the UCE (Uganda Certificate of Education) exams.
According to Ronald Kaliisa and Mbabazi Charles the area UNEB supervisors for Station 162 (Biiso) and 096 (Bugungu) and also doubles as headteachers of Biiso War Memorial and Bugungu Secondary Schools respectively revealed that no candidate was stopped from doing the papers.
The two asked parents to continue giving support to the candidates during this examination period.
