BULIISA DISTRICT ELECTS NEW UNSA LEADERSHIP

Students’ leaders under their umbrella body of Uganda National Students Association (UNSA) in Buliisa have elected new leadership.

UNSA is an Umbrella organization for all students in post primary institutions in Uganda. its operations are supported by the Parliamentary Education Act 2008 which mandates the establishment of Students Councils in post primary institutions.

Each district in Uganda has a Secretariat for UNSA and the UNSA structure begins from school to global level where every school sends six delegates to represent the respective school at the district where they elect a District Council every year.

All the five delegates have a right to contest any position at district level although to be chairperson or speaker, one must be in “A” Level.

Over the weekend, students from schools across Buliisa District elected the District Council who are student leaders at the district level and the regime that had served for a year handed over power to the incoming regime to take up the responsibility.

In a hotly contested election, the outgoing regime and delegates from various secondary schools in Buliisa namely Biiso war memorial SS, Bugungu Secondary school ,Ngwedo seed School, kihungya seed school, Butiaba seed school, Amari Christian senior secondary school, Devine SS, St. Francis SSS, Blessed Mwakas College, Uganda Matyrs Comprehensive SSS and Mukitale Development Foundation SS participated in the election.

The election that was held at Mukitale Development Foundation Senior Secondary School main hall was a success with the help of Mr. Manyireki Vivian who acted as the Returning Officer and patrons from the participating schools who acted as presiding officers.

Jaryekonga Ronald from Uganda matyrs comprehensive was elected the chaiperson and Musimenta Mariam from St. Francis SS as the vice. Mate Samuel from Biiso war Memorial SS (unopposed) was announced as the speaker and Ayebale Annet from Uganda Matyrs Comprehensive as her deputy. The leadership council is summarized below.

UNSA BULIISA LEADERSHIP

President: Jaryekonga Ronald– Uganda martyrs comprehensive SS

Vice President: Musimenta Mariam– St. Francis SS

Speaker: Mate Samuel -Biiso war memorial SS

Deputy Speaker: Nayebale Annet – Uganda Martyrs Comprehensive SS

General Secretary:  Asaba Godwin –St. Francis SS

Assistant General Secretary: Prudent Ayiorwoth – Butiaba Seed SS

Secretary for Finance: Tumwine Darious – Uganda Matyrs Comprehensive

Secretary for Inter School Affairs: Muber Francis– Ngwedo Seed SS

Secretary for Women Affairs: Munguriek Liberty -Amari Christian SS

Secretary for Information and Publicity: Baligonzaki Asalim –Bugungu Secondary School

secretary for students with disabilities: Owinji  Patrick – Ngwedo Seeds SS

Out of the 13 members that form the District Council Executive Committee, four delegates that include chairperson, speaker, female representative and representative of personas with disability head to the national level and elect National Students Council.

The National Executive Committee then elect the regional student’s body, the East African Students Executive Committee.

The East African Students Executive Committee together with similar bodies from across Africa converge in Accra, Ghana, and elect the African Students Union.
