The Masindi Grade One Magistrate Court presided over by grade one magistrate Selsa Biwaga on Friday further remanded Simon Okou 38 to Masindi Government Prisons till 28th October 2022.

Ekou was arrested on 1st June 2022 on allegations of shooting and killing Gerald Aseera, a former employee of Kings FM 93.6 Masindi.

The suspect who is a private security guard attached to Blue Whale Security Company Ltd was manning the coca cola depot Masindi branch when the gruesome incident happened.

According to Ekou, he shot Aseera on allegations of theft. Aseera was later dumped at Masindi general hospital by unidentified people where he died before getting treatment.

On 13th June 2022, magistrate Selsa Biwaga slapped murder charges against Simon Okou after pleading guilty for shooting and killing Aseera.

Mrs. Jessica Kabakuru, the mother of late Aseera Gerald, asked court to speed up the trial of the suspect who killed his son for justice.

Gerald Aseera was a journalist attached to Kings FM 96.3 Masindi, he was shot in the chest 1st June 2022 on allegations of theft of four cartons of soda at the Coca-Cola depot Masindi branch.

According to ASP Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, the incident happened at around 00:30am.

The journalist died moments after being rushed to Masindi General Hospital.

According to Rashida Tooti, an eyewitness at the hospital, the deceased was dumped near the children’s ward by unknown people at around 1am, and they suspected him to be a thief.

The matter was reported at Masindi CPS.

Scene of the crime was visited by the deputy CID and the team, rifle number UG. PSO21008209637 and three rounds of ammunition recovered from the suspect and exhibited.

Gerald Aseera was buried amidst tears on 3rd June 2022 at his ancestral home in Pakanyi Village Pakanyi Sub County Buruli County in Masindi district.

While addressing the mourners, Mr. Isingoma Peter the father of late Aseera rejected the police statement that his son was shot over the theft of four cartons of soda.
