KAMPALA – Football fans will watch the African Nations Championship (CHAN) third-place playoff between Sudan and Senegal at no cost, after the Local Organising Committee (LOC) announced it had purchased all 28,000 tickets for free distribution.
The announcement was made on Thursday, August 28, 2025, by Dennis Mugimba, the LOC Communications and Signage Sub-Committee Chairperson. He confirmed that no tickets will be sold for Saturday’s game at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Fans can claim the free tickets through CAF’s official website using the promo code CHAN3RD, with a maximum of three tickets per person. Each ticket is marked “NOT FOR SALE” but will retain all normal security features for verification at the gates.
The LOC says the gesture is a reward for fans’ “exemplary participation” throughout the tournament. Uganda, co-hosting CHAN-2024 with Kenya and Tanzania under the Pamoja banner, registered record crowds at Cranes matches, with tickets selling out at every game.
Although the Uganda Cranes exited at the quarterfinal stage after losing to Senegal, the country’s hosting has received high praise. LOC Chair and First Lady Janet Museveni thanked fans for their unwavering support, calling the experience “historic and successful.”
Saturday’s playoff will not only feature the clash between Sudan and Senegal but also live performances from top Ugandan artistes including Jose Chameleone, John Blaq, Elijah Kitaka, and Vinka. The music show will start at 5:00 p.m., an hour before kickoff, and continue after CAF’s official medal ceremony.
