Hoima – Seven incumbent LC3 chairpersons from various sub-counties in Hoima District were unseated in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary elections held yesterday.

Despite low voter turnout at some polling stations, the exercise was conducted peacefully, resulting in a significant shake-up in the district’s local leadership.

Outgoing LC3 Chairpersons Who Lost Party Flagbearer Positions:

  • Godfrey Mwesigwa Musonga – Kiganja Sub-county

  • Elisha Kaliisa – Kitoba Sub-county

  • Musinguzi Jimmy Muhereza – Kijongo Sub-county

  • Alex Mwesigwa – Kyabigambire Sub-county

  • Emmanuel Adriko – Bombo Sub-county

  • Nicholas Sajabi – Kigorobya Sub-county

  • Buswa Byangire Joshua – Kigorobya Town Council

Newly Elected NRM Flag Bearers for LC3 Chairperson:

  • Vincent Karamagi – Kiganja Sub-county

  • Gilbert Tugume – Kitoba Sub-county

  • Mugisa K. Modest – Kijongo Sub-county

  • Benon Wabyona – Kyabigambire Sub-county

  • Vicent Mugisa Mosuyu – Bombo Sub-county

  • Nelson Mwesigwa – Kigorobya Sub-county

  • Julius Bartwa Godoro – Kigorobya Town Council

  • Moses Kajura – Bulindi Town Council

Hoima District NRM registrar, Francis Tumwesige, announced that Godfrey Bainomugisa (Kisukuma Sub-county) and Jamil Kasangaki (Buhanika Sub-county) went unopposed and were declared winners.

Incumbents Who Retained Party Flagbearer Positions:

  • Ali Tinkamanyire – Buseruka Sub-county

  • Hassan Kugonza – Kabale Sub-county

  • Robert Mwanga – Buraru Sub-county

  • Fred Mbabazi Abooki – Kapapi Sub-county

Speaking after his victory, Fred Mbabazi Abooki, the incumbent LC3 Chairperson of Kapapi Sub-county, thanked residents for re-electing him. He urged unity among the people of Kapapi following what he described as a divisive campaign period fueled by rival political camps.

Hoima District comprises 14 sub-counties and three town councils, making it one of the most politically vibrant regions in Western Uganda.
