Residents who have set up camps along River Waiga in the park area in Buliisa District have been given a seven-day ultimatum to vacate the area.
While appearing on a weekly radio program on Biiso FM, Bahebwa said some residents had abandoned their homes and erected makeshift camps using tarpaulins near River Waiga. He explained that the individuals claim they are collecting firewood from the park and burning charcoal for sale—an activity he described as illegal.
The RDC directed officials from the Uganda Wildlife Authority to immediately remove the residents from the area.

In response, the area warden of the Uganda Wildlife Authority, Wilson Kagoro, condemned the act and pledged to address the matter before the seven-day deadline expires.
Kagoro noted that communities living near the park are only permitted to collect firewood for domestic use and not for commercial purposes such as charcoal burning.
