Buliisa District Council has tabled a proposed Shs25 billion budget for the 2026/2027 financial year, reflecting a slight increase from the current Shs22 billion resource envelope.
The budget estimates were presented during a district council session held at the District Resource Centre and chaired by the district speaker, Fred Baligambaki.
The estimates were laid before the council by the district vice chairperson, Vincent Mukonyezi, who also serves as the Secretary for Finance, Planning and Administration.
Mukonyezi told council that the district expects the resource envelope to grow to Shs25 billion, with the largest share allocated to the wage bill.
According to the proposed allocations, the health sector and production department will each receive Shs7 billion, while the education sector has been allocated Shs6 billion.
Other allocations include Shs1.2 billion for the works department and Shs199 million for natural resources, among other sectors.
Mukonyezi said the proposed budget prioritises increasing production and productivity, as well as titling of government land to secure ownership.
The district also plans to invest in infrastructure development, particularly in road improvements, energy projects such as solar lighting installation at the administration block and repairs, and strengthening health, education, and water services.
District leaders say these priorities are aimed at improving service delivery and supporting economic growth in the district.
