KAMPALA, UGANDA — Ugandan music star Jose Chameleone has revealed that he was rapidly losing sight in his right eye before undergoing successful surgery in Kampala.

In an emotional message shared with his followers, the Leone Island boss  born Joseph Mayanja  said the condition had worsened quickly, prompting urgent medical intervention.

“I thank you Lord for another great morning!! I thank Dr Ludovica Tindebwa and the entire Kampala Eye Lasik Hospital team for my eye surgery and your hospitality. I was rapidly losing my sight on my right eye. I seek your healing as always my Lord,” he wrote.

The procedure was carried out at Kampala Eye Lasik Hospital, where he credited Dr. Ludovica Tindebwa and the medical team for their professionalism and care.

While the singer did not disclose the specific diagnosis, his statement suggests the issue had reached a critical stage before surgery was performed.

Fans rally behind the music icon

News of the health scare sparked concern among fans and fellow artists, who flooded his social media platforms with prayers and messages wishing him a speedy recovery.

Chameleone, one of Uganda’s most influential and enduring musicians, has built a career spanning more than two decades, with hits that have defined generations of East African music. His openness about personal health struggles has often drawn widespread public sympathy.

Previous health battles

This is not the first time the singer has faced serious medical challenges. In recent years, he battled acute pancreatitis, a condition that required specialised treatment in the United States. He later returned to Uganda in April 2025 after receiving care abroad.

His latest health update has once again highlighted the pressures faced by public figures, as well as the outpouring of support they receive during times of vulnerability.

For now, fans are hopeful that the surgery marks the beginning of a full recovery for the celebrated artist, whose influence on Uganda’s music industry remains significant.
