Hoima City — Masters of ceremonies and event hosts from across the Bunyoro region have received a major financial boost after President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni donated UGX 100 million to support their welfare and professional development.
The funds will be accessed through the group’s regional SACCO, with qualified members set to receive between UGX 1 million and UGX 2 million each.
The money is repayable in monthly installments of at least UGX 200,000, allowing beneficiaries to reinvest and sustain the revolving fund.
The official launch of the fund distribution was held yesterday at Kolping Gardens in Hoima City, attracting MCs and event hosts from various districts across Bunyoro. More than 50 members benefited in the first disbursement and are expected to begin repayments on January 4, 2026, enabling the SACCO to support additional members.
While presiding over the launch, State Minister for Public Service, Grace Mary Mugasa, applauded the President for recognizing the contribution of entertainers in the region. She cautioned beneficiaries against misusing the funds, calling for a strong sense of responsibility and productivity.
The minister laughed off the common belief among some Ugandans that financial support from the President is “akasiimo” (a token), warning that such a mindset leads to continued poverty.
“These funds are meant to uplift you. Those who take this money as ‘akasiimo’ and fail to use it productively will remain floating in poverty,” she emphasized.
Hon. Mugasa rallied all MCs and event hosts to support and vote for President Museveni in the coming elections for more benefits and protecting the Gains. She added that its only President Museveni who minds about the wealth of Ugandas who also wishes them good health.
Stella Tumusime, the SACCO chairperson, revealed that Hoima City registered the highest number of members (35). She noted, however, that some districts posted low enrollment because many individuals were reluctant to meet the required savings and subscription obligations needed for SACCO participation.
Hoima Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Badru Mugabi, who led the mobilization efforts for the initiative, reiterated that the funds will only be given to eligible and verified members.
Mugabi cautioned beneficiaries against defaulting on repayments, stating that doing so would undermine the SACCO’s ability to support others.
“Anyone who misuses or fails to repay this money will not only block others from benefiting but will also face prosecution. The SACCO will not hesitate to take action,” he warned.
With the first round of funding disbursed, the SACCO now aims to monitor beneficiaries’ projects, ensure timely repayments, and expand opportunities for MCs and event hosts across the Bunyoro region.
