Hoima
The National NRM Vice Chairperson for Western Uganda, Engineer Jonard Asiimwe, has expressed concern over Hoima City leaders who are opposing the development of Hoima City Boma Ground into a modern training facility ahead of the 2027 AFCON.
Uganda will co-host the continental tournament alongside Kenya and Tanzania, and Hoima City International Stadium is expected to host some of the matches.
Government plans indicate that Hoima Boma Ground, Sir Tito Playground in Bulindi Town Council, and Boma Ground in Masindi Municipality have been earmarked as training facilities. A total of 13 billion shillings has been allocated for upgrading the Hoima Boma Ground.
However, during a recent council meeting, Hoima City councilors rejected the proposal to hand over the land title to the Uganda National Council of Sports, arguing that the city would not benefit from revenue generated by the facility.
Engineer Asiimwe has urged the leaders to reconsider their position, saying the project will not only modernize Hoima City but also boost business and beautify the area.

Bugahya County MP Pius Wakabi Rujumba has also criticized the leaders resisting the development. He has pledged to donate free land in Kitoba Town Council for a training facility should Hoima City councilors persist in blocking the Boma Ground project.
