Alebtong District, Uganda — National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has promised wide-ranging development projects for Alebtong District and the greater Lango sub-region as part of his re-election campaign.
Addressing thousands of supporters at Alebtong District Headquarters, President Museveni emphasized the need for continuity in leadership, warning voters against what he called “lies and confusion” spread by opposition politicians. He argued that Uganda requires experienced leadership to safeguard the country’s progress.
“Uganda needs experienced and focused leadership, not naive politicians who would destroy the gains we’ve made under the NRM,” Museveni said.
The president reminded residents of the region’s past challenges of war and instability, which he said were overcome under NRM leadership, laying the foundation for ongoing peace and development.
Infrastructure and Industrialization
Museveni outlined major infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity across the region. Among them are the Lira–Alloyi–Abim Road, linking Lango to Karamoja, and the Soroti–Amuria–Achan Pi Road.
He also pledged:
-
Expanded access to universal primary education and healthcare
-
Increased electricity distribution in underserved areas
-
An industrial park at Karuma, designed to spur job creation and industrial growth in Lango, funded partly by revenue from Uganda’s oil sector.
Boosting Agriculture and Land Use
On agriculture, Museveni promised to improve land-use planning and promote commercial farming. He announced plans for large-scale wetland fish farming projects and other modern agricultural practices to ensure sustainability.
He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the “one primary school per parish” policy to bridge education gaps in rural areas.
Security and Regional Integration
Museveni praised the people of Northern Uganda for their role in peacebuilding and national unity, stressing that security and regional integration remain critical for economic growth.
“Integration ensures wider markets, trade, and sustainable development,” he said, urging communities to protect the gains made in peace and security.
Endorsements from Local Leaders
NRM leaders in Alebtong, led by Dennis Hamson Obua, the party’s Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda, expressed strong support for Museveni’s candidature. They cited government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, Youth Livelihood Program, and the GROW project as key drivers of wealth creation and community empowerment.
Obua highlighted the restoration of peace in Northern Uganda as one of NRM’s most significant achievements, urging voters to safeguard that progress by re-electing Museveni.
