A staff member at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital (HRRH) has been arrested for allegedly stealing blood from the facility.
According to information obtained by Uganda Radio Network (URN), the suspect whose identity is being withheld to avoid compromising ongoing investigations was arrested last week after being caught red-handed with four units of blood.
Badru Mugabi, the Hoima Resident City Commissioner (RCC), confirmed the arrest, stating that security acted on an intelligence-led tip-off. Working closely with hospital management, security officers apprehended the suspect as he attempted to sneak the blood out of the hospital.
“The suspect was found with four units of blood and intended to take them to an unknown destination,” Mugabi said.
He added that the suspect is currently in custody and will be charged in court once investigations are complete.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the motive behind the theft or the intended destination of the stolen blood.
