After over a decade of court battles and delayed compensation, 46 households affected by the oil refinery project in Hoima District say they are finally seeing signs of justice and are hopeful once again.
The families, who are among the roughly 7,000 people displaced by the project, say they faced low compensation rates and long delays that disrupted their livelihoods. Some chose cash compensation, while others held out for land and other forms of support.
Julius Ochokdhogu, a representative of the Project-Affected Persons (PAPs), told our reporter that government has now fulfilled most of its earlier promises thanks to persistent follow-ups by the affected communities.
