Education stakeholders in Buliisa District are appealing to the government to increase funding for co-curricular activities in primary schools to help identify and nurture learners’ talents.
The call was made during the District Primary Schools Music, Dance, and Drama (MDD) competitions held last Friday at the Buliisa District headquarters.
Godfrey Muhumuza, the District Sports Officer, expressed concern over the current Shs10 million annual allocation for co-curricular activities, saying it is insufficient to run programs effectively.

Kenneth Bikanga, Head Teacher of Kisasya Primary School in Kigwera Sub-County, echoed similar concerns. He stressed the importance of increased government support to help schools perform better in co-curricular activities.

Meanwhile, Solomon Musasizi from the Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda (CCFU) noted that the organization is working with schools to preserve and promote Ugandan culture among the younger generation.
