A widow in Buliisa District has been left homeless after her home was set ablaze in the early hours of the morning in what is suspected to be a family related arson attack.
Apoti Biwaga, a resident of Kahemura Cell in Biiso Town Council, says the fire broke out between 2 and 3 AM when unidentified individuals torched her three grass-thatched houses. She suspects the attack is linked to ongoing family disputes, revealing that a family member had recently threatened her life for unknown reasons.
“I have lost everything. I don’t know where to start. I’m appealing to government, NGOs, and local leaders to support me and my family,” Biwaga said in Alur.

Her son, Julius Jakisa, who was sleeping in one of the houses at the time, recalled waking up to intense heat and thick smoke. He raised an alarm, which alerted neighbors and saved lives, though all property was destroyed.

Village General Secretary Abudu Rashid Kugonza confirmed the incident and strongly condemned the act.
“Even when there are family misunderstandings, violence is never the solution. Such matters should be resolved amicably,” Kugonza said in Lugungu.
