The Church of Uganda is set to consecrate Rev. Canon Joshua Kugonza as the 3rd Bishop of Masindi Kitara Diocese this Sunday, August 3rd, 2025.

His election was made by the House of Bishops on March 30th at Zebra Hotel in Masaka City. He replaces Bishop George William Kasangaki, who is retiring after reaching the mandatory age limit as outlined in the Church of Uganda constitution.

The consecration and enthronement ceremony will take place at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Masindi, led by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu.

Simon Peter Ayebale, chairperson of the organizing committee, told our reporter on Friday that preparations are in full swing. He confirmed that equipment and food supplies have already been secured for the big day.

While the committee had initially budgeted Shs 600 million for the event, Ayebale revealed they are operating on a smaller budget due to funding shortfalls. He called on Christians and well-wishers to continue offering financial support.

Ayebale extended gratitude to Christians, local leaders, and donors for their support, noting that hosting the event at the cathedral has come with high logistical costs. The ceremony is expected to draw over 7,000 guests and will be presided over by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

He urged Christians to arrive early and in large numbers, emphasizing that security will be tight, with some roads temporarily closed around the venue. Police and army personnel will be on the ground to ensure safety.
