The annual coronation celebrations of His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II took place on Thursday, July 31st, 2025, at Kibuli Mosque in Makindye Division, Kampala.
The colorful event, marking the Kabaka’s enthronement, attracted over 10,000 people including cultural leaders, dignitaries, and members of the public. Proceedings began at 9:00 AM and concluded peacefully by 5:00 PM, with a strong security presence ensuring order throughout the day.
Despite the smooth running of the celebrations, police say some criminal elements attempted to cause disruption. According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango, 57 suspects were arrested and are currently detained at Kabalagala Police Station. They face charges of common nuisance.
“The coronation is an important cultural event, and we are committed to ensuring its safety. We thank the public for their discipline and cooperation,” said SSP Onyango.
He praised the majority of attendees for their peaceful conduct and assured the public that police remain vigilant.
The coronation of Kabaka Mutebi II is a major highlight on the Buganda Kingdom calendar, celebrating his ascension to the throne and honoring the Kingdom’s rich cultural heritage
