Hoima, Uganda | August 8, 2025 — The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Director of Operations Other Than War, Brigadier General Kenneth Muheire, has called on newly recruited candidates to uphold discipline as they prepare to begin their military training at Kaweweta Military Training School.
Gen Muheire made the remarks in Hoima District while leading UPDF Recruitment Team 5, which is currently conducting the recruitment exercise across the Bunyoro region.
While addressing 54 successful recruits from Hoima City and District, Gen Muheire applauded them for choosing the noble path of military service.
“Serving in the UPDF is a calling,” he said. “The decision you have made today will transform your lives from zero to heroes. You will enjoy this profession if you maintain discipline.”
He further highlighted that the recruits’ journey to the training school on their own is a test of commitment and patriotism. He urged them to remain focused and warned against acts of favouritism, which he said can become distractions and hinder their success during training.
Resident City Commissioner Urges Focus
Mr. Badru Mugabi, the Resident City Commissioner for Hoima, also addressed the recruits, congratulating them on reaching this stage of the recruitment process.
“This is not the end of the process; you still have a long way to go,” he said. “You must train and pass out, which is essential to becoming a soldier.”
He encouraged the recruits to stay disciplined throughout the course, stressing that discipline is key to securing their future roles as defenders of the nation.
