A tragic accident occurred Thursday when a plane belonging to an air ambulance service crashed in a residential area just outside Kenya’s capital, Nairobi. According to local officials and the aircraft’s owner, at least six people lost their lives in the crash.
Witnesses on the scene described a grim scene, with body parts reportedly scattered around the crash site. The aircraft, a mid-size Cessna Citation XLS, had taken off from an airport in Nairobi and was en route to Somaliland when it went down.
AMREF Flying Doctors, the service provider, confirmed the aircraft’s model but did not specify the number of casualties or the cause of the crash. In a statement, they said they are working closely with aviation authorities and emergency responders to understand what happened.
The crash occurred in the residential area of Mwihoko, in Kiambu County—a region bordering Nairobi. Kiambu County Commissioner Henry Wafula reported that four of the six people aboard the plane died on impact, with two others inside a house that was struck by the aircraft.
The Kenya Red Cross confirmed that rescue teams have been dispatched to the scene. Interestingly, earlier reports mistakenly identified the aircraft as a helicopter, but authorities clarified it was a jet.
This is a developing story. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
